Nature reserves and national parks play a vital role in protecting natural heritage, advancing science, enhancing ecological awareness, and fostering a careful and responsible attitude toward the environment.
In Uzbekistan, the system of protected natural areas continues to develop. Today, it includes 7 state nature reserves, 1 complex (landscape) sanctuary, 13 natural parks, 1 national park, 11 natural monuments, 2 biosphere reserves, 12 wildlife sanctuaries (10 of which do not have legal entity status), as well as the special breeding center “Jayron.” The total area of protected natural territories in the country amounts to 6 333 779,17 hectares. In recent years, significant progress has been achieved in this field: while protected natural areas accounted for 4.5% of the country's territory before 2017, this figure has now reached 14.1%.
The Day of Nature Reserves and National Parks emphasizes that protecting nature is a shared responsibility. Caring for natural heritage today is a contribution toward sustainable development and a prosperous future for the generations to come.
