Issues Related to the Implementation of Waste-to-Energy Projects Discussed

The discussions were held with representatives of the Chinese companies "China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd.", "Shanghai SUS Environment Co., Ltd.", and "Everbright Environmental Protection Ltd." The meetings were also attended by the heads and representatives of these companies in Uzbekistan, as well as by Sharifbek Hasanov, Director Director of the Waste Management and Circular Economy Development Agency.
During the meetings, the current stages of the investment projects were reviewed, proposals for their further advancement were presented, and subsequent steps were discussed with due regard to environmental and technological requirements. Particular attention was paid to compliance with environmental standards and to the effective integration of the projects into the national waste management system.
Within the framework of cooperation with the Chinese companies, major infrastructure projects are being implemented in several regions of the country:
–According to the project of Everbright Environmental Protection Ltd., facilities in the Namangan and Fergana regions will process up to 3,000 tonnes of waste per day, generating 454.6 million kWh of electricity annually. The total project cost amounts to USD 283 million.
–Under the project of "Shanghai SUS Environment Co., Ltd.", up to 3,000 tonnes of waste per day will be processed in the Kashkadarya and Samarkand regions, with annual electricity generation of 480 million kWh. The project is valued at USD 300 million.
–The project of China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. предусматривает in the Andijan and Tashkent regions, as well as in the city of Tashkent, the processing of up to 4,000 tonnes of waste per day, with annual electricity generation of 630 million kWh. The project cost is estimated at USD 350 million.
The meetings confirmed the parties’ mutual interest in the consistent implementation of these projects aimed at reducing the volume of waste disposed of in landfills, advancing the circular economy and increasing the share of alternative energy sources in Uzbekistan’s energy mix.
