In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Ecology Iskandar Kutbiddinov underlined that natural heritage today plays a crucial role in promoting the country on the international stage. The exhibition is intended to remind society of the need to treat the environment with care and of the responsibility each person bears for preserving the planet.
The exhibition features 60 photographs showcasing the richness of Uzbekistan’s natural heritage – from hydrological and geological sites to biological and paleontological monuments. Visitors can see images capturing water resources, unique landscapes, flora and fauna, soil diversity, as well as natural monuments located in different parts of the country. The works were created by both professional photographers and talented enthusiasts.
The photo exhibition aims to foster environmental awareness and a respectful attitude towards the environment. Special attention is given to animals, plants and landscapes of protected natural areas, which are particularly vulnerable to climate change.
Alongside the exhibition, two new publications by the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change are being presented – the photo books “Natural Heritage of Uzbekistan” and “Uzbekistan’s Nature through the Seasons”. These editions reflect the main directions of the state’s environmental policy and are based on the results of many years of comprehensive research. They include information on the country’s natural monuments: ancient trees and forests, rivers, natural lakes and springs, waterfalls and gorges, mountains and glaciers, deserts and sand dunes, key habitats of plant and animal species, as well as nature reserves and national parks.
It is noted that the exhibition and the presented books will be useful to everyone interested in ecology and sustainable development. The materials can serve as a valuable resource for teachers and students, schoolchildren, researchers and specialists in the field of environmental management, as well as for all those who seek to enhance their environmental literacy and to better understand how fragile and valuable Uzbekistan’s natural wealth is.
The exhibition will run until 14 December inclusive. Admission is free.
