The opening remarks were delivered by First Deputy Minister of Ecology Obidjon Kudratov, who noted that in recent years Samarkand has become a center of intercultural dialogue and a prominent international agenda. He emphasized that such initiatives enhance the role of art in promoting environmental values:
“This symposium became a creative continuation of the global dialogue on ecology that took place here during CITES CoP20. Sculptors demonstrated how powerful artistic expression can be when addressing the fate of our planet and our responsibility toward future generations,” he stated.
Held under the theme “Our Planet – Our Home,” the symposium brought together 17 professional sculptors, including 12 international artists from the United Kingdom, China, India, Iran, Oman, Georgia, Japan, Türkiye and other countries, as well as 5 participants from Uzbekistan.
Over the course of one month, the artists produced around 20 sculptural works dedicated to global environmental challenges, climate change, sustainable urban development and the promotion of environmental awareness among the population.
In addition to artistic work, the program included study trips to Samarkand and Bukhara, master classes for students of art, tourism and creative universities, as well as thematic presentations on international best practices in organizing sculpture symposia. Media representatives also had the opportunity to meet the artists and learn more about the works presented.
All sculptures created during the symposium will be installed in public parks and green areas of Tashkent and Samarkand. These artworks will become part of the urban cultural landscape and serve as a reminder of the importance of caring for nature.
At the closing ceremony, participants of the symposium received certificates and monetary awards.
