Organized by the Ministry of ecology, environmental protection and climate change of Uzbekistan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) within the framework of the joint project “Umbrella Programme to Support NBSAP Update and the 7th National Reports,” financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the event was held under the theme “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development.” It served as a platform for discussing the importance of biodiversity conservation and for sharing knowledge and experience in this field.
Participants were introduced to the main achievements and focus areas of the project, which aims to align Uzbekistan’s national environmental policy with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The presentation highlighted how Uzbekistan is integrating these new global targets into national planning, strengthening the capacity of protected natural areas, and improving its environmental legislation.
Particular emphasis was placed on a cross-sectoral approach to biodiversity conservation — especially the involvement of a wide range of stakeholders, from government bodies and scientific institutions to youth. In this context, Green University students played an active role in the discussions and demonstrated a high level of environmental awareness.
Speaking at the event, Project Manager Sergey Zagrebin noted:
“We are currently working closely with the Ministry of Ecology on the preparation of the Seventh National Report on the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity, as well as on the development of a new Strategy and Action Plan in line with the newly adopted National Targets. This cooperation has been very productive, with support provided at all levels — from leadership to on-the-ground efforts in reserves, forest enterprises and protected areas.”
To conclude the event, an educational quiz on biodiversity was organized for students. The interactive game sparked great interest among participants. The winners received valuable prizes — a laptop, a tablet, and headphones — making for a memorable end to an inspiring and meaningful day.
The event at Green University not only highlighted the relevance of biodiversity conservation but also demonstrated the importance of united efforts at both national and international levels to ensure a sustainable future.
