The ‘Andijan experience’ of effective utilisation of groundwater by means of solar panels and desalination plants has been studied

Specialists of Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology, State Institution ‘Uzbekhydrogeology’ and State Institution ‘Institute HYDROINGEO’ studied the experience of efficient use of groundwater for drinking water supply and irrigation of household plots with the use of solar panels and desalination plants in Bulakbashi and Bustan districts of Andijan region.
The project was financed by the World Bank in 2021-2024. The project improved drinking water supply conditions for 50 households and irrigation of homestead plots for 85 households.
In particular, a system using solar panels as a source of electricity was implemented: desalination plants provide drinking water and groundwater is used directly for homestead irrigation.
During the study, the issues of application of this practice in other regions of the country, as well as implementation of similar projects in co-operation with the Ministry of Water Resources and the Association of Mahallas of Uzbekistan were discussed.
