Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan

In addition to representatives of the UNECE Water Convention, the International Water Assessment Centre (IWAC) and international experts, the meeting was attended, on behalf of Uzbekistan, by representatives of the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology, the Ministry of Water Resources, the State Institution “Uzbekhydrogeology”, the State Institution “HYDROINGEO Institute”, and the State Geological Monitoring Service, as well as, on behalf of Kazakhstan, by representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Kazhydrogeology NJSC.

During the meeting, the participants discussed the issues raised at the first meeting held in Tashkent on 1 July this year and ways to address them, the draft Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, as well as the draft Roadmap for the protection and efficient use of the Tashkent Transboundary Aquifer through 2030.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants exchanged views on the prospects for implementing new initiatives and international projects for the rational use and protection of water resources with the support of the United Nations.
