The meeting was attended by specialists from the Uzbekhydrogeology State Institution and the HYDROINGEO Institute State Institution. The participants reviewed the progress made in the rational use and protection of groundwater resources in Uzbekistan and exchanged information on ongoing initiatives across Central Asia aimed at sustainable water resources management, climate change adaptation, and the implementation of international and grant-funded projects related to transboundary waters.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to prepare and sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination.
The Memorandum provides for cooperation in the study of transboundary aquifers, geothermal resources within the Water–Energy–Land (NEXUS) approach, the introduction of an automated groundwater monitoring system, and the joint organization of professional development activities for hydrogeologists in the fields of international water diplomacy and water law.
