Representatives of the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology took part in a meeting of the Parliamentary Commission

The meeting was chaired by the Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Commission, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva. Representatives of the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology also participated in the session. During the meeting, discussions focused on the work carried out under Sustainable Development Goal 15, aimed at the sustainable use of forests, combating desertification, halting land degradation and biodiversity loss. The results of the assessment of activities in this area in Surkhandarya region were also reviewed.
It was noted that in 2025, a total of 4,811 km of open and 701 km of closed collector networks, 141 hydraulic structures, and 770 monitoring wells were repaired. In addition, 17 hydraulic structures and 60 monitoring wells were reconstructed. As a result of these measures, the meliorative condition of land improved, and the area of saline soils in the region decreased from 93.8 thousand hectares to 90.1 thousand hectares, which significantly contributed to preventing erosion and land degradation.
Following the meeting, the Parliamentary Commission adopted a relevant decision and approved an action plan (“roadmap”) for implementation across the republic and in Surkhandarya region. In addition, the responsible ministries and agencies were assigned the necessary tasks to ensure its execution.
