Meeting Held with the Adviser to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Suma Chakrabarti

On 28 January this year, a meeting was held between the First Deputy Minister of Mining Industry and Geology, F. Khamidova, and the Adviser to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Suma Chakrabarti, as well as members of his expert group.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the work carried out and future plans regarding Uzbekistan’s possible accession to the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). In particular, they discussed the outcomes of the visit to the country by a delegation led by Helen Clark, Chair of the EITI Board.
Mr Chakrabarti also expressed his gratitude for the co-operation within the framework of measures taken by the Ministry of Mining and Geology concerning Uzbekistan’s potential membership in the EITI.
In conclusion, the importance of continuing work in this area jointly with relevant ministries and agencies, as well as with the President’s advisory expert group and the EITI organisation, was emphasised.
