During President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Kashkadarya region, he reviewed work aimed at ensuring employment, reducing poverty, and creating new sources of income. A meeting on the region’s socio-economic development also focused on priority tasks in this area.
The meeting stressed that the goal is to turn Kashkadarya, which only a few years ago was one of the most difficult regions, into an area free of poverty and unemployment by the end of this year. The head of state noted that there are concrete calculations for achieving this result.
During the visit, he reviewed construction work and employment projects in the Chim mahalla of Kamashi district.
In particular, 3.5 billion soums have been invested in a carpet-weaving and embroidery enterprise where women work. With bank support, greenhouses covering 36 sotix have been set up at about 20 households, and a 200-ton cold storage facility has been built for storing produce. As a result, employment has been secured for more than 80 people.
Lemon growing is also being developed in the mahalla on a cooperative basis. Residents are supplied with saplings, fertilizer, and agrotechnical services, and the harvest is purchased at a guaranteed price. By planting potatoes, broccoli, and greens between the lemon saplings, each greenhouse earns an additional 14–16 million soums until the trees begin to bear fruit.
The meeting also addressed creating new jobs by expanding industrial enterprises. The head of state supported the plans of Nurbek Ergashev, head of the “Sultonteks” cluster, which has a modern energy- and water-saving enterprise, to provide jobs for another 30,000 people by 2028, creating particularly many opportunities for women.
Existing opportunities to raise incomes in agriculture were also reviewed. It was noted that in Kashkadarya region, this sector alone offers the potential to provide income to an additional 200,000 people.
To this end, in cooperation with the World Bank and based on Egypt’s experience, drone-assisted sowing of drought- and salt-tolerant livestock fodder will begin on 100,000 hectares of pastureland in eight districts.
During the visit, the work of fellow citizens contributing to the development of entrepreneurship and agriculture in the region was also recognized. In particular, it was announced that a decree has been signed conferring the honorary title “Honored Entrepreneur of Uzbekistan” on Nurbek Ergashev, head of the “Sultonteks” cluster.
It was also announced that Abdumannop Khudoyberdiyev, who created a dynastic lemon-growing school in the Chim mahalla of Kamashi district and is contributing to higher incomes for residents, will be awarded the honorary title “Honored Agricultural Worker of Uzbekistan.”
These projects and the tasks set are aimed at expanding employment, creating new sources of income, and reducing poverty and unemployment in Kashkadarya region.
