On the meetings, seminar and field visits conducted with the UNESCO delegation

At the initiative of the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology, an international seminar was held to study existing issues and to organise UNESCO Global Geoparks in Uzbekistan, in particular the establishment of the “Kitab Geopark” in the Kitab district of the Kashkadarya region. The seminar was dedicated to the topic “Identification and classification of geological heritage sites in the Kitab and Shakhrisabz districts and raising public awareness of geological heritage”.
The seminar was attended by UNESCO experts from Iran, Türkiye and Switzerland, as well as local specialists.
UNESCO experts held meetings with the First Deputy Minister of Mining Industry and Geology F. Khamidova and the Hokim of Kitab district R. Gafurov.
In addition, field visits were organised to review the tourism and geotourism potential of the Kitab district. The experts highly appreciated the district’s potential and provided recommendations regarding the work that needs to be carried out.
