Broadcast ahead of the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence, the programme featured the “Uzbekistan–Malaysia: Creative Tourism” project developed by Malaysian professors Badrul Bin Isa and Norfadilah Kamaruddin. The project is being implemented at the initiative of the scholars in cooperation with the Tourism Committee, the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Malaysia, and the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan.
The initiative envisages the creation of professional digital content showcasing Uzbekistan’s tourism opportunities through visual storytelling. Under the project, from August 17 to 31, a creative team comprising professional photographers and designers from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, will conduct filming in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khorezm.
Photo and video content about Uzbekistan produced by Malaysian creative professionals is planned to be distributed across digital platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube. The project will also involve students from higher education institutions in Uzbekistan studying design, arts, tourism, and hospitality. This will create opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the academic, tourism, and creative fields.
Speaking on the programme, Badrul Bin Isa noted that the project would contribute to promoting Uzbekistan more widely across ASEAN countries and the Muslim world. According to the professor, digital platforms will be used to showcase the country’s rich historical heritage, its potential for pilgrimage tourism, and the transformations currently taking place in Uzbekistan.
“We want the people of the ASEAN region to rediscover Uzbekistan — a country with a rich historical heritage, a deep-rooted culture, and a hospitable people,” the professor said.
He also congratulated the people of Uzbekistan on the 35th anniversary of independence, emphasizing that the results of the project would serve as a meaningful contribution to this significant occasion.
The initiative is expected to contribute to promoting Uzbekistan’s pilgrimage tourism and attracting more visitors from ASEAN countries.
