The Andijan Region is one of the oldest and most unique regions of Uzbekistan. For many centuries, this area has been renowned for its sacred sites. Among them, a special place is held by the mausoleum of the Arab commander Qutayba ibn Muslim, who was the first to bring Islam to Central Asia.
Participants of the press tour visited the mausoleum, learned about its history, and observed the large-scale restoration and construction works being carried out there today.
According to some sources, the great commander Amir Temur regarded the burial site of Qutayba as sacred and sent an architect from Samarkand to build a magnificent and beautiful mausoleum over his grave. Since 2020, construction and restoration work has been underway on the mausoleum grounds. During these works, cultural artifacts dating back to approximately the 11th–13th centuries were discovered in the foundation of the mausoleum.
Within the complex, a mosque, a museum, a library, and separate facilities for visitors have been built. A 680-meter access road with large arched gates was laid from the main Khanabad highway to the mausoleum, and the surrounding area has been landscaped. Today, the mausoleum of Qutayba ibn Muslim has become a lively and well-maintained site for both visitors and pilgrims.
It is worth noting that the Qutayba ibn Muslim mausoleum complex is visited not only by residents of our country but also by tourists from both near and far abroad. Transforming the complex into a comfortable and well-developed site and creating convenient facilities for visitors will undoubtedly contribute to an increase in the flow of tourists and pilgrims.
