From May 24 to 30 of this year, a delegation headed by the Chairman of the Committee visited Paris to participate in the 92nd General Session of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
During the visit, a bilateral meeting was held between the Chairman of the Committee, Bahrom Norqobilov, and the Director General of WOAH, Dr. Emmanuel Schneider.
At the meeting, the parties discussed strengthening the friendly and productive relations between Uzbekistan and WOAH.
The reforms in Uzbekistan’s veterinary sector, particularly regarding the animal identification system, control of infectious diseases, and the development of veterinary education, were highly appreciated by WOAH.
The practical results of strategic cooperation with WOAH were especially noted, including the successful 31st Regional Conference for Europe held in Samarkand, and the significance of the “PVS Follow-up” and “PVS Aquatic” missions.
An agreement was reached to involve WOAH experts in supporting Uzbekistan’s application for disease-free status in relation to foot-and-mouth disease and highly pathogenic avian influenza.
The results of the twinning project implemented with WOAH support at the Samarkand State University of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry, and Biotechnology, as well as Uzbekistan’s initiatives under the “Model WOAH” program, were also discussed.
The Committee Chairman proposed a resolution to integrate the “Model WOAH” initiative into WOAH’s recommended Day-1 competencies for veterinary education, a proposal that was welcomed by the WOAH Director General.
It was also noted during the meeting that World Bank grant funds would be directed to strengthening the capacity of veterinary laboratories in Uzbekistan and implementing twinning collaborations with foreign laboratories.
