The international art project in Samarkand strengthens the city’s cultural and tourist image

Organised by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, the Ship of Tolerance by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov has been unveiled in Samarkand, marking the 20th anniversary of the internationally acclaimed art project.

For the first time in Central Asia, the installation features a sail composed of more than 1,000 drawings by children from across Uzbekistan, reflecting messages of peace, hope and unity.
The project’s opening took place as part of the 14th UNESCO Youth Forum and was accompanied by the International Children’s Concert gathered young performers from Uzbekistan and abroad.
Orchestras, ensembles and choirs presented classical and traditional works, underscoring the project’s mission to promote dialogue, creativity and intercultural exchange.
Since its debut in Egypt in 2005, the Ship of Tolerance has travelled to nearly 20 cities worldwide and is recognised as a “living monument to peace and unity.”
