Apple Pay is also expected to launch in the coming days. Technical preparations are being carried out by the Central Bank, commercial banks and payment systems HUMO and Uzcard.
This development marks another step in ongoing tourism reforms aimed at creating more convenient conditions for international visitors, including the integration of leading global payment systems into the country’s national infrastructure. The main objective is to enable tourists to use familiar and trusted payment methods while travelling in Uzbekistan.
Particular attention is being paid to the Chinese and Indian markets, where significant growth in tourist arrivals is expected. Efforts are underway to integrate Alipay+ and NPCI International into the national payment infrastructure. In August, the Alipay+ payment gateway was launched on the HUMO infrastructure, enabling users of Alipay and connected digital wallets, particularly Chinese tourists, to make payments in Uzbekistan through the UZQR system.
At the recent Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, representatives of HUMO and India’s NPCI International discussed practical steps to implement an agreement on cross-border QR payments. The project, which will connect Uzbekistan’s UZQR system with India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), will enable Indian tourists to pay for goods and services at retail outlets and service establishments by scanning QR codes with their familiar mobile applications.
These measures will reduce international visitors’ reliance on cash and international bank cards, make Uzbekistan an even more accessible and convenient travel destination, and help unlock the country’s full tourism potential.
