The event aimed to promote Uzbekistan’s traditional crafts, showcase the centuries-old history of carpet weaving and the symbolic meanings of national patterns and ornaments, and explore ways to combine traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. It brought together artisans from various regions of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives and designers from other countries.
Over the two days, the Arda Khiva complex hosted public festivities, kurash wrestling competitions, performances by tightrope walkers and puppeteers. The “Artisans’ Village”, dedicated to traditional carpet weaving, featured a wide range of national handicrafts.
On the first day, an international scientific and practical conference entitled “Uzbekistan’s Carpet Weaving: Tradition and Innovation” was held. Participants discussed the historical roots of carpet weaving, the preservation of traditional craftsmanship and opportunities to integrate established techniques with contemporary trends.
The day concluded with a concert programme featuring the traditional Khorezmian khalfa performing arts and a showcase of collections by ethnic designers.
On the second day, participants visited the Silk Museum in the Itchan Kala complex and the workshop of renowned carpet-weaving master Madraim Madraimov, where they learned more about Uzbekistan’s traditional craftsmanship.
At the closing ceremony, participants received diplomas and awards. The programme also featured a gala concert.
The international exhibition brought together 50 artisans from different regions of Uzbekistan and more than 20 participants from abroad. Visitors had the opportunity to discover the distinctive styles of various carpet-weaving schools, examples of traditional craftsmanship and the rich cultural heritage of different peoples.
The international exhibition “Splendor of Carpets” contributed to promoting Khiva’s rich cultural heritage, supporting the development of traditional crafts and strengthening international cultural ties.
