The meeting focused on further developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and India in tourism, culture, arts, handicrafts, fashion and the creative economy, expanding tourist exchanges between the two countries, and promoting Uzbekistan’s tourism potential more widely in the Indian market.
The meeting noted that relations between Uzbekistan and India have acquired increasing strategic importance in recent years. In particular, during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Uzbekistan in August 2026 and his talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, important agreements were reached aimed at elevating bilateral relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.
It was also noted that a Tourism Cooperation Programme for 2026–2028 was signed during the visit. The document provides a strong institutional framework for expanding tourist exchanges, implementing joint projects, organising cultural events and developing new tourism destinations.
As of 1 September 2026, a visa-free regime of up to 30 days from the date of entry into the Republic of Uzbekistan has been introduced for citizens of India who hold a valid multiple-entry tourist or business visa issued by Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Canada, the Republic of Korea, the Schengen states, New Zealand or Japan, and who present an air ticket for departure to their country of citizenship or a third country. The visa-free stay is granted within the validity period of one of the aforementioned foreign visas.
It was noted that, starting from 28 September 2026, Centrum Air began operating regular direct flights on the Tashkent–Hyderabad–Tashkent route, creating new opportunities to expand tourism and business ties between the two countries. In connection with the launch of the new air service, a familiarisation tour to Uzbekistan was organised for representatives of Hyderabad’s tourism industry from 2 to 5 October. On 5 October, the Uzbekistan–India Travel & Tourism Business Forum and B2B meetings were held in Tashkent.
During the talks, proposals were put forward to implement joint projects drawing on Ritu Beri’s expertise in Indian fashion, design and creative industries. It was also proposed to organise a creative familiarisation tour to Uzbekistan for representatives of India’s fashion and design industries, as well as specialised media outlets.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of media and creative projects aimed at shaping a modern tourism image of Uzbekistan in India, as well as involving leading Indian designers, specialised media, cultural platforms and opinion leaders in promoting the country.
Following the meeting, the sides reached a number of agreements aimed at translating cooperation into practical projects. In particular, they agreed to organise a visit to Uzbekistan by leading representatives of India’s wedding industry and prominent experts, cooperate on the filming of an Indian film in Uzbekistan, and develop and sign a separate “Roadmap” to ensure the systematic implementation of the agreed joint initiatives.
The sides expressed their readiness to continue practical cooperation to further strengthen tourism and cultural and humanitarian ties between Uzbekistan and India, develop new tourism products and promote Uzbekistan’s tourism potential more widely in the Indian market.
