International exhibition “Splendor of Carpets” to be held in ancient Khiva

The exhibition aims to showcase to a wide audience the thousand-year history of the art of carpet weaving, the symbolic significance of national ornaments and decorative elements, as well as their harmonious integration with contemporary design. The event will bring together master artisans and designers from Uzbekistan and other countries.
The exhibition will open at 10:00 on 17 October with an official opening ceremony. Over the two days, the Arda Khiva complex will host traditional festivities, kurash wrestling competitions, performances by tightrope walkers and puppeteers. The “Artisans’ Town”, dedicated to the traditional art of carpet weaving, will feature works and products by folk artisans.
On the first day, an international scientific and practical conference titled “Carpet Weaving in Uzbekistan: Traditions and Innovations” will be held. In the evening, a concert programme will bring together performances by representatives of Khorezm’s traditional khalfachilik art and a presentation of collections by ethnic designers.
On the second day, participants will visit the Silk Museum at the Itchan Kala complex, as well as the workshop of renowned carpet weaver Madraim Madraimov. The exhibition’s closing ceremony will take place on the evening of 18 October. As part of the event, participants will be presented with certificates and prizes, followed by a theatrical gala concert.
