Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan

The meeting was attended by representatives of government agencies responsible for tourism development from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the CIS Executive Committee and the Secretariat of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States.

The agenda covered current trends and promising tourism development projects in the CIS member states, implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Cooperation among the CIS Member States in Tourism for 2021–2030, tourism statistics and forecasting of tourist flows, professional training, and further expansion of cooperation in tourism.

Particular attention was paid to improving mechanisms for the regular exchange of statistical and analytical data on mutual tourist flows. The participants discussed opportunities for establishing information exchange between the authorised tourism authorities of CIS member states, as well as integrating the information resources of national digital platforms.

The meeting also included a separate discussion of the activities of the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in Samarkand as the CIS basic organisation in the field of tourism.

Sandjar Tadjiyev, Deputy Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, delivered a report on this issue, providing information on the university’s current activities, international cooperation, educational and research programmes, as well as efforts to strengthen interaction among specialised higher education institutions of the CIS member states.

One of the key items on the agenda was the determination of the Council’s next chairmanship. In accordance with the established rotation principle, the chairmanship of the CIS Tourism Council for 2026–2027 was transferred to the Republic of Uzbekistan, with Abdulaziz Akkulov, Chairman of the Tourism Committee, appointed as Chair of the Council. It was also decided that the next meeting of the Council would be held in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2027.

During Uzbekistan’s chairmanship, particular attention will be paid to developing cross-border tourism, improving the exchange of tourism statistics and analytical data, training qualified tourism professionals, strengthening cooperation between educational institutions, and developing joint tourism routes.

Cooperation in these areas will contribute to further expanding practical tourism ties within the CIS, facilitating experience sharing and promoting new joint initiatives.
