Surkhandarya’s tourism potential promoted in Thailand through the image of the Buddha statue discovered at Fayaztepa

In 1968, a Buddha statue was discovered at the Fayaztepa temple complex in Surkhandarya Region, dating back to the 1st–3rd centuries AD. Despite significant damage caused by the passage of time and historical events, the surviving fragments and the size of the sculpture indicate that it represents an image of the Buddha. Today, this unique archaeological find is preserved at the Museum of History of Uzbekistan in Tashkent.
At the initiative of Phansak Bunyasophon, Tourism Ambassador of Surkhandarya Region to Thailand and Professor, and F. Sultanov, Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Thailand, awareness-raising activities are being carried out to distribute 200 special frames featuring the image of the Buddha statue discovered at Fayaztepa at Buddhist temples in Bangkok.
Through this initiative, residents and tourists in Thailand are being provided with information about the Buddhist heritage of Surkhandarya Region, its archaeological sites, and opportunities for developing pilgrimage and cultural tourism.
Such international awareness-raising efforts contribute to enhancing the tourism appeal of Surkhandarya Region and, in particular, increasing tourist flows from Thailand to Uzbekistan.
