International Melon Festival officially opens in Khiva

The prestigious event, organised at the Ichan-Kala complex and the Arda Khiva tourist complex, is attended by Jurabek Rakhimov, Khokim of the Khorezm Region; Abdulaziz Akkulov, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan; heads of government agencies; members of the diplomatic corps; representatives of international and domestic tourism organisations; agricultural specialists; farmers; international guests; and media representatives.
It was noted that in recent years Uzbekistan has placed particular emphasis on developing tourism as a strategic sector of the national economy. Extensive efforts are underway to enhance the tourism appeal of the country’s ancient cities, particularly Khiva, develop modern tourism infrastructure, and create new tourism products.
As part of the International Melon Festival, visitors can explore exhibitions featuring melons and other melon crops, enjoy presentations of traditional national dishes, visit folk crafts fairs, and attend concert programmes, cultural performances, and various competitions. Over the course of several days, the festival will offer local residents and international visitors a vibrant and memorable experience.
One of the festival’s highlights will be a concert by renowned Russian singer MakSim, to be held at the Arda Khiva tourist complex on 8 August. Admission to the concert is free.
Participants who demonstrate outstanding activity during the International Melon Festival will receive valuable prizes from the Khorezm Regional Administration and sponsors in various categories.
