Uzbek football attracts tourists and global media attention

The historic qualification of Uzbekistan’s national football team for the FIFA World Cup has attracted the attention of millions of football fans around the globe. The visit, organized with the support of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, marked COPA90’s first-ever trip to the country.
During the visit, COPA90 presenter Eli Mengem explored Uzbekistan’s football culture, fan community, sports infrastructure, and historical landmarks. The film crew visited the Center for Islamic Civilization of Uzbekistan, the mahallas of Tashkent’s Old City, the Tashkent Metro, and the Chorsu Bazaar. They also conducted an interview with legendary national team player Timur Kapadze and attended the Uzbekistan–Colombia match at Bunyodkor Stadium on June 19.
According to COPA90, Uzbekistan’s participation in the FIFA World Cup is expected to attract thousands of tourists interested in discovering the country’s football culture and visiting the homeland of football stars such as Abbosbek Fayzullaev, Eldor Shomurodov, and Abdukodir Khusanov, among others.
