During the meeting, the parties discussed the “Central Asia Tourism Ring” initiative proposed by the President of Uzbekistan during the 59th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank held in Samarkand. Special attention was paid to the introduction of a unified visa system for tourists from third countries, the organization of joint tourism routes, and the simplification of border-crossing procedures.
During the negotiations, proposals were presented to establish separate corridors for organized tourist groups at Uzbekistan’s border checkpoints, ensure the participation of Central Asian countries with a unified pavilion at international exhibitions, and increase the number of flights to strengthen tourism ties with the United States, Australia, and Latin American countries. In addition, opportunities for broader promotion of Uzbekistan’s tourism potential through the “Silk Road” tourism portal created within the CAREC program were highlighted.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to implement pilot projects aimed at developing border infrastructure, including the expansion of border checkpoints in the Fergana Region and Tashkent Region. They also discussed strengthening cooperation with the “Silk Road” thematic office in Samarkand, organizing joint programs in training and digitalization, and ensuring the participation of Central Asian countries in the international tourism exhibition FITUR in Madrid as a unified tourism region.
