The high level of current cooperation in the tourism sector was noted. Uzbekistan remains one of the most active member states of the organization, consistently advancing joint initiatives, including the activities of the “Silk Road Tourism” thematic office in Samarkand and the development of the International Academy of Tourism. Special mention was made of the visit by Secretary-General Shaikha Al Nowais in April of this year, which confirmed the strength and momentum of the partnership.
A key topic of the negotiations was the preparation for signing a Joint Action Plan. Particular attention was given to the development of the “Silk Road Tourism” thematic office in Samarkand as a key regional platform.
The promotion of the “Central Asia Tourism Ring” initiative aimed at developing cross-border tourism was also discussed. It was noted that citizens of more than 60 countries will have the opportunity to visit Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan within a single trip, creating a foundation for a unified tourism space.
Special emphasis was placed on the implementation of the International Code for Safe Tourism, an initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In this regard, an agreement was reached on the need to hold the 2nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee, finalize the draft document, and submit it for consideration by the organization’s governing bodies. It was also proposed to include the issue of the Code on the agenda of the Executive Council.
Additionally, preparations for the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism in 2027 were discussed, as well as the possibility of establishing a joint working group to coordinate preparatory activities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized their mutual interest in further expanding cooperation and implementing joint projects aimed at developing sustainable and safe tourism in the region.
