Tourism-related activities of higher education institutions in 2025: Key figures

I. Work accomplished.
1. In cooperation with tour operators, the number of tour packages developed on the basis of information on the history, tourist attractions, and specific features of 30 assigned districts and cities was increased to 194.
For reference: the tour packages developed by the National University of Uzbekistan — ‘Mozhrum Juniper,’ ‘Recreation at Tuzkan,’ and ‘One Day in the Farish Style,’ as well as the tour package developed by Urgench State University, ‘Pahlavon Mahmud — the Uzbek Hero, the Unconquered palvan,’ cover the tourist attractions of the respective regions.
2. A total of 6,809 content items were created covering the tourism potential, history, and attractions of districts and cities, including 1,182 informational items, 1,272 videos, and 4,355 photos in foreign languages.
For reference: materials on the tourism potential of the Rishtan District have been translated into English, Arabic, Persian, Malay, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Urdu, Indonesian, Dari, Pashto, and Turkish. An electronic platform, ‘Forish Ethnomedia Tourism’ (http://www.forishtour.com/), has also been created.
New information on 88 tourist sites has been added to Google Maps, details on 90 sites have been posted on Wikipedia in Uzbek, Russian, and English, and data on 35 sites have been uploaded to other online platforms. In particular, information on the natural monuments of Chust District and the Machay Cave in Baysun District has been included in Google Maps and the open encyclopedia Wikipedia.
In order to disseminate information about the tourism image of the regions to foreign tourists, modern information technologies are being actively used. For instance, researchers from the Faculty of Economics and Tourism at Bukhara State University have, for the first time in the country’s history, launched a mobile application and an interactive map called ‘Inclusive Tourism.’
3. In the assigned territories, higher education institutions have organized 70 short-term courses for industry representatives and 180 internship programs at tourist sites, involving 1,536 students.
In particular, in 2025, Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies conducted a short-term training course, ‘Service Standards and Customer Relations,’ for 600 service industry workers in Rishtan District, and, in cooperation with Japan’s Rissho University, organized the 2nd International Symposium on ‘The Silk Road as a Symbol of Sustainable Tourism.’
Within the framework of the initiative, students from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mining at Termez State University of Engineering and Agrotechnologies organized a two-week summer internship at the Darband training and practical base in Baysun District.
Tashkent State University of Transport, in cooperation with JSC ‘Uztemiryo’lovchi,’ has established training courses for train attendants and professional development in railway tourism, which were successfully completed by 368 employees.
Four-week ‘School of Young Guides’ programs have been implemented at seven higher education institutions for 378 pupils and students, based on a joint decision with the Tourism Committee.
In the Kagan and Romitan districts, within the framework of the VET4UZ project and in cooperation with the Swiss Federal University of Vocational Education (SFUVET), short-term courses on ‘Fundamentals of Tourism Entrepreneurship’ and ‘Hotel Management’ were conducted.”
4. Each of the 11 higher education institutions, aiming to attract at least 500 tourists to the country, held 40 scientific symposia and forums, 42 international scientific conferences, 48 ethnofestivals, 32 summer and winter camps, 7 competitions and contests, as well as 133 seminar-training sessions.
In particular, the National University of Uzbekistan, with the participation of international students, held the 2nd International Student Youth Forum ‘Zaamin’ in Zaamin District under the motto ‘Youth and Ethnotourism,’ the Youth Tourism Festival ‘Shining Arnasay’ in Arnasay District, and the tourism campaign ‘Travel Around Forish!’ in the village of Mozhrum, Forish District. In addition, archaeological and ethnographic field research continues in the village of Mozhrum, Forish District.
The 2nd International Festival ‘Mizdahkan — Sacred and Mysterious Place’ was held at the ancient Mizdahkan complex in Khodjeyli District, Republic of Karakalpakstan, and on October 4–5, 2025, the 3rd International Festival ‘Echo of the Desert’ took place in Ellikqal’a District.
As part of the festivals, the intellectual game ‘Zakovat,’ the national clothing exhibition ‘Taqiya,’ and the 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference on raising cultural awareness and developing environmentally sustainable tourism were held.
On October 26, 2025, an international event on ‘Prospects for the Development of Tourism and Scientific-Cultural Relations between Uzbekistan and Indonesia’ was held at the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, with the participation of 130 representatives from Indonesia.
5. Faculty members, researchers, and talented students are conducting 16 research projects with a total budget of 12.72 billion soms, aimed at studying the historical and cultural sites of the districts and promoting tourism development.
For example, for Zaamin District, a website has been created and a mobile application developed, VR-3D tours have been designed for each site, and a 3D animated visualization of the lost architectural monument ‘Miq Fortress’ has been produced: https://zomintour.uz/ . The project’s software product has been officially certified under DGU 49187 as the ‘ZaaminTour Innovative Tourism Platform.’
6. As a result of the events held in 30 districts and cities from January to December 2025, 7,310 foreign tourists and 147,594 domestic tourists were attracted.
Within the framework of the ‘Talaba Travel’ project, interregional student trips have been organized, and as part of the Aral Sea Tourism Week, ecological expeditions were conducted.
From January to November, under the ‘Travel Across Uzbekistan!’ program, 283,191 university students and 69,498 school students took part in tourism trips across the regions.
As part of the preparations for the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, held in Samarkand, cultural and educational events on the theme ‘Uzbekistan’s Priceless Heritage’ were organized in foreign countries.
For reference: from January to September, such events were organized in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Luxembourg, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Norway, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iran, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia.
In addition, 578 talented students studying in service-related fields and proficient in foreign languages completed summer internships in leading countries of the international tourism industry.
