This year’s competition evaluated not only newly published books but also editions that had participated over the past 30 years. “PLOV: A Culinary Study,” representing Uzbekistan, received the title “Best of the Best.”
The book explores the history of plov, the technological nuances of its preparation in various countries, and, of course, all the regional varieties of Uzbek plov — considered the pinnacle of culinary art across the East and the world.
In 2025, the author Stalik Khankishiev released the second, expanded edition of the book, which now includes the unique Khorezm suzma-plov, Bukhara’s Oshi-Sofi, as well as Afghan Oshi-Kabuli, Yemeni kabsa, and many other masterpieces of traditional culinary heritage. The book enjoys great popularity in Russia and the CIS countries, and its translation into other widely spoken languages is anticipated.
“PLOV: A Culinary Study” is a two-time winner of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards — Paris (2013) and Beijing (2014).
