The event brought together Fergana Regional Governor Khayrullo Bozorov, Grapa Global CEO Rafi Karniel, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jamshidjon Abduzukhurov, heads of relevant regional departments, international partners, farmers and industry specialists.
Participants first explored the ARRA seedless grape varieties presented by the U.S. company Grapa Global.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the regional governor thanked the company’s management and all partners for initiating the event. He noted that relations between Uzbekistan and the United States were developing steadily and dynamically, entering a new phase. It was emphasized that the recent C5+1 ministerial meeting in Samarkand, the participation of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the visit by a major business delegation marked a historic occasion, opening up broad opportunities for new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. The partnership launched with Grapa Global in Fergana Region was highlighted as a tangible outcome of these efforts.
It was noted that, at the President’s initiative, fundamental changes and reforms were being implemented across all sectors, including agriculture, with scientific advances and new technologies being introduced.
Viticulture is an important branch of the region’s agriculture, playing a significant role in creating jobs, raising household incomes and strengthening export capacity. Currently, more than 400 farms in the region grow grapes on 4,500 hectares. Of this area, 3,400 hectares, or nearly 76 percent, are located in Altyaryk District.
Global demand for seedless grape varieties is growing, with particular attention paid to product quality, appearance and storage performance. Introducing modern varieties and applying advanced technologies and international expertise are therefore essential to increasing the added value and export appeal of the produce.
“Interest in seedless grape varieties is particularly strong worldwide. Growing these varieties makes it possible to increase the added value of the produce and generate higher export revenues,” Khayrullo Bozorov said.
These varieties stand out for their seedlessness, excellent taste, attractive appearance, high yields and long shelf life. Most importantly, they fully meet the requirements for maintaining quality during long-distance transportation and sale, making them particularly well suited for export.
Discussions also covered Agrostar projects and new programs aimed at developing agriculture in the region, including plans to double the area under vineyards. It was noted that the work being launched in partnership with the company would mark a new stage in the development of viticulture.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jamshidjon Abduzukhurov spoke about the measures being taken in Uzbekistan to develop agriculture, increase production and expand export destinations. He noted that the partnership launched in Fergana would provide valuable practical experience.
Grapa Global CEO Rafi Karniel delivered a presentation on the company’s activities, the characteristics of seedless grape varieties and opportunities for developing modern viticulture. Praising Fergana Region’s favorable climate and the diligence of local farmers, he expressed interest in moving swiftly to the practical implementation of the partnership.
Cooperation will extend beyond the supply of planting material. Support is also planned for introducing modern technologies and advanced practices. At this stage, the company intends to introduce ten seedless grape varieties to Fergana.
During the seminar, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzagrostar Holding, the Fergana Regional Administration and the U.S. company Grapa Global LLC signed a memorandum of cooperation on developing viticulture, arranging imports of planting material and expanding agricultural exports.
