Poultry farming is one of the key sectors in ensuring food security and providing the population with affordable and high-quality sources of protein.
The “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy also places special emphasis on food security. This aspect is reflected in the country's strategic documents on socio-economic development.
In recent years, consistent reforms have been carried out to develop this sector, introduce modern technologies, and align with international standards.
During the meeting between the Chairman of the Veterinary and Livestock Development Committee, Bahrom Norqobilov, and representatives of the globally leading genetic company “Aviagen Group”, issues related to elevating poultry breeding in Uzbekistan to a new level were discussed.
At the meeting, the parties discussed a plan to establish, in cooperation with this company, a first-order reproductive breeding enterprise for ROSS-308 broiler chickens in Zomin district of Jizzakh region, with an estimated value of 40 million USD.
The implementation of this project will play a significant role in meeting the demand for high-quality breeding poultry and meat products. Such initiatives are also crucial for creating new jobs and expanding the geography of exports in the future.
Currently, more than 80 percent of poultry farms in Uzbekistan use the ROSS-308 breed. Experts note that this breed surpasses others due to its rapid growth, efficient feed conversion, and high productivity. For these reasons, it has been recognized as the “gold standard” in global poultry farming. By adapting this breed to local conditions and producing breeding birds domestically, the country will reduce its dependence on imports and stabilize prices in the domestic market.
This cooperation is important not only economically but also socially. The project will create new jobs in rural areas and train local specialists based on international standards.
Most importantly, the system based on global experience will contribute greatly to ensuring food security in Uzbekistan. It represents a practical expression of the principle that “food independence is part of national security.”
The new technologies to be introduced for this breed will ensure efficient use of energy and feed resources. For instance, this breed reaches maturity with less feed consumption compared to others, which reduces enterprise costs, lowers production costs, and enhances market competitiveness.
