A project for the safe management of pesticides is being implemented in the country, titled “Technical Assistance for the Rational Management of Hazardous Chemicals.” This initiative will support the country in mitigating the impacts of climate change and reducing the negative environmental consequences. To achieve this, plans are in place to enhance local capacities, strengthen institutions, and refine regulatory and legal documents, tools, and coordination mechanisms.
The project is being carried out by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecology, Environment, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with support from the European Union.
"The main goal of this seminar is to introduce the concept of managing the lifecycle of pesticides, discuss the shortcomings in the current pesticide management system in Uzbekistan, and make decisions on short, medium, and long-term measures to address these issues. Ultimately, these actions will help reduce the risks associated with outdated pesticides and contribute to the introduction of advanced practices in protecting human health and the environment," said the project’s national coordinator Elmurod Nazarov.
It is noteworthy that the implementation of this project is an important step toward improving ecological safety in Uzbekistan. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with Uzbekistan, have developed a pesticide lifecycle management system that integrates advanced practices at every stage, from production and distribution to utilization, to reduce the environmental and health impacts caused by pesticide use.
