Uzbekistan has put forward its candidate for the chairmanship of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe

To discuss this initiative and promote the candidacy of Uzbekistan, on May 13 this year, a meeting was held between the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov and the Chairman of the Tourism Committee Umid Shadiev with the heads of diplomatic missions of foreign countries accredited in Tashkent.
It was noted that the nomination of Uzbekistan's candidacy for the position of chairman is seen as recognition of the country's consistent reforms in the field of tourism, practical steps to strengthen regional cooperation, as well as its contribution to the development of sustainable and inclusive tourism.
As chairman, Uzbekistan plans to promote new initiatives aimed at popularizing Central Asia as a single tourism space, developing cross-border routes, widely introducing digital solutions, and strengthening regional dialogue within the framework of the UN World Tourism Organization.
The UN Tourism Commission for Europe includes 41 countries in Europe, Central and West Asia. The Commission plays an important role in shaping tourism policy in the European region, strengthening regional cooperation and developing sustainable and inclusive tourism.
The 71st meeting of this commission will be held on June 4-6, 2025 in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan. During this meeting, it is planned to hold elections for the chairman of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe for 2025-2027.
