Tourism Potential of Uzbekistan Showcased in Lahore, Pakistan

The first event of the Road Show took place in Lahore, a city with a population of over 14 million. More than 500 participants attended, including the leadership of Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab, the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives of the South Asia Center for International Studies, local tourism businesses, as well as officials and tour operators from Uzbekistan.
The event featured a presentation titled “Uzbekistan – The Pearl of the Silk Road” and included B2B (business-to-business), G2B (government-to-business), and G2G (government-to-government) meetings between tour operators from both countries. Uzbekistan Airways, the national airline, was also presented during the event.
Detailed information was provided about Uzbekistan’s potential in pilgrimage tourism, its rapidly developing winter and mountain tourism sectors, and the country’s unique gastronomic offerings.
“The tourism potential between our two countries is enormous. We aim to expand not only historical but also business and medical tourism. Both the government and the business community should actively take part in realizing these opportunities,” said Mian Abuzar Shad, President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“It is essential to actively promote the marketing and popularization of Uzbekistan in Pakistan, especially by highlighting sacred sites of significance to Pakistanis, such as the mausoleum of Imam Al-Bukhari. Developing bilateral tourism ties, taking into account the historical bonds that unite us, will open new horizons for our countries,” noted Nasir Mahmood Bashir, Head of the Punjab Tourism Development Corporation.
As a result of the event, direct contacts were established between tourism industry representatives from both countries, and dozens of mutually beneficial agreements were reached.
The second part of the Road Show included a concert program featuring Uzbek performers and an exhibition of traditional Uzbek handicrafts and national costumes.
