The meeting focused on expanding tourist exchanges, developing pilgrimage tourism, launching direct air services, and strengthening cooperation between tour operators of the two countries.

To increase tourist flows, the parties discussed the possibility of launching direct flights on the Tashkent–Jakarta route, as well as direct air services connecting Tashkent with Uzbekistan’s historic cities.

During the dialogue, the possibility of applying the mechanisms proposed by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to subsidize new air routes was highlighted. It was also noted that local tour operators attracting tourists from Indonesia will receive a subsidy of US$100 for each tourist.

Every year, more than 2 million Indonesian citizens undertake Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages. With more than 1,200 pilgrimage sites, including the heritage associated with Imam Bukhari, Imam Maturidi, Imam Termezi and Bahauddin Naqshband, Uzbekistan has significant potential for the Indonesian tourism market.

As part of the Indonesian Minister of Hajj and Umrah Affairs’ visit, a tour of pilgrimage sites in Samarkand and Bukhara was organized. Agreements were reached to promote Bukhara and Samarkand in the Indonesian market as pilgrimage tourism destinations, develop dedicated tourism routes, and hold B2B meetings with Hajj and Umrah operators.

The opening of the five-star Hadith Hotel at the Imam Bukhari Complex, with the participation of Indonesian investors, has also become one of the practical outcomes of cooperation between the two countries in tourism.

The development of direct air services, the “Umrah Plus” programme, cooperation between tour operators, and pilgrimage tourism infrastructure will contribute to strengthening Uzbekistan’s position in the Indonesian market and increasing tourist flows.
