Uzbekistan ranks 37th among the world’s most peaceful countries

According to the results of the Global Peace Index 2026, published by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), Uzbekistan ranked 37th out of 163 countries, demonstrating a high level of peacefulness. The country received an overall score of 1.726. Notably, Uzbekistan ranked 67th a year earlier.
Uzbekistan was recognized as the leader in Central Asia in terms of security and stability. Among other countries in the region, Kazakhstan ranked 44th, Tajikistan 47th, Kyrgyzstan 61st, and Turkmenistan 66th.
The index assesses the level of peace and stability in countries based on 23 indicators grouped into three main areas:
🔹 Safety and Security — indicators related to crime levels, public safety, political instability, the impact of terrorism, and the security of the population;
🔹 Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict — domestic and international conflicts, their duration and intensity, as well as the degree of involvement in external conflicts;
🔹 Militarisation — military expenditure, the size and capabilities of armed forces, military capacity, and other defence-related indicators.
Thus, the ranking reflects not only a country’s level of domestic security, but also a broader set of indicators related to peace and stability, which are among the important factors shaping a country’s tourism appeal.
International studies show that when choosing a travel destination, tourists take into account risks related to safety, terrorism, crime, and political instability. In particular, travelers who are more sensitive to security concerns tend to choose destinations with high levels of safety and protection.
From this perspective, Uzbekistan’s 37th-place ranking in the Global Peace Index represents an important positive factor for the country’s international tourism image, enhancing its appeal as a safe and stable travel destination.
