Winners of the World Triathlon Championship determined in Samarkand

The opening ceremony of this prestigious tournament—held for the first time in Uzbekistan among Central Asian countries—was attended by Viktor Makhmudov, Chairman of the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and head of the country’s Triathlon Federation, as well as representatives of the Samarkand regional khokimiyat, the Ministry of Sports, and the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees. They wished the participants success.
Around 100 top athletes from 28 countries took part in the championship. According to the competition program, athletes competed in a 1.5 km swim, a 40 km cycling race, and a 10 km run.
In the women’s event of the World Triathlon Championship Series – 2026, which featured 43 athletes, Beth Potter of Great Britain claimed first place. France’s Léonie Périault finished second, while Jeanne Lehair of Luxembourg took third.
In the men’s competition, 52 athletes competed for victory. Portugal’s Vasco Vilaça delivered an outstanding performance to take first place. Germany’s Henry Graf secured second place, and Canada’s Charles Paquet finished third.
The winners and prizewinners were awarded by Antonio Arimany, President of the World Triathlon organization, and Viktor Makhmudov, head of the Triathlon Federation of Uzbekistan.
Today, April 26, a stage of the World Triathlon Para Cup will take place. Participants will compete in their respective categories, covering 750 meters of swimming, 19 km of cycling, and a 5 km run, with athletes competing alongside their guides.
