As part of the cooperation with WTTC at the international tourism exhibition ITB Berlin 2026 in Berlin, the Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Akkulov, and WTTC President Gloria Manzo discussed the prospects for the country’s participation in the organization’s global initiatives and strengthening standards in the tourism sector. In particular, they addressed issues such as accurately assessing tourism’s contribution to Uzbekistan’s economy using WTTC analytical data, promoting investment opportunities, attracting leading international hotel and restaurant chains, and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in the international tourism market.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTTC and the preparation and signing of a cooperation agreement between the Tourism Committee and WTTC (taking into account the experience of countries such as Saudi Arabia, Italy, and Malta). Within this cooperation, plans include conducting an in-depth analytical study of the tourism sector, organizing joint B2B/B2C meetings with WTTC members and investors, presenting investment projects and Uzbekistan’s tourism brand on WTTC platforms, as well as providing expert support on sustainable and digital tourism.
Considering these factors, hosting the WTTC Global Summit in Uzbekistan appears to be a logical step. The country not only has developed infrastructure and a safe environment but also already demonstrates effective cooperation with WTTC, including preparation for membership, the use of analytical tools for strategic planning, and the promotion of investment projects. Hosting the summit in Uzbekistan will showcase the country as a platform for sustainable and digital tourism, attract international companies and investors, and strengthen its position on the global tourism map.
