To implement the systemic reforms initiated in recent years in the tourism sector by the Head of State—aimed at attracting investment, supporting the private sector, and improving the regulatory framework—the Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan paid a working visit to the Republic of Karakalpakstan on 27–28 January of this year. During the visit, he reviewed ongoing and prospective tourism projects and held meetings with representatives of the regional tourism industry.
The event was held in the format of an open dialogue with the participation of a republican working group comprising representatives of the Ministries of Economy and Finance, Transport, Poverty Reduction and Employment, the Agency for Cultural Heritage, the Agency for Expanding Forests and Green Areas and Combating Desertification, as well as the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regional administrations, and the Tashkent city administration. More than 50 participants took part, including entrepreneurs, tour operators, guides, travel agents, artisans, representatives of transport companies, restaurants, hotels, cultural heritage sites, museums, and officials from relevant ministries and agencies. During the meeting, participants discussed key issues related to tourism development in the region, effective use of existing potential, and improvement of service quality.
In a presentation delivered by the Chairman of the Tourism Committee, A. Akkulov, the results achieved in Karakalpakstan in 2025 were summarized, and plans for 2026 were outlined. It was emphasized that the development of eco-, cultural, and ethno-tourism is among the priorities of state policy, and that there are broad opportunities for launching new projects in these areas.
Representatives of the tourism industry noted that state-provided incentives, subsidies, and grant programs contribute to the sustainable development of the sector. At the same time, proposals and initiatives put forward by local entrepreneurs were recognized as important for further strengthening public–private partnerships.
As a result of the meeting, specific tasks were identified to ensure effective implementation of state tourism policy at the regional level, promote the international tourism image of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, and support projects aimed at improving living standards. It was noted that such meetings serve as an important platform for dialogue and help unlock the full tourism potential of the region.
The next meeting will take place on 30 January in the city of Khiva, Khorezm Region, at the Farovon Hotel (Kiyat mahalla, Buyuk Yol Street, Building 1-A).
