During the meeting, representatives of the Center presented the existing framework for conducting SEA in Uzbekistan, including its key procedural stages, regulatory and legal mechanisms, and approaches to its practical implementation.
The parties discussed ways to improve SEA methodologies, introduce modern tools for the environmental assessment of strategic documents, and adapt Korea’s advanced experience to Uzbekistan’s national context and legislative requirements.
Following the discussions, the parties identified key areas for future cooperation and agreed on approaches to developing a roadmap for phased collaboration. In particular, the roadmap envisages engaging KEI experts to provide methodological guidance to the Center, offer advisory support, and implement practical initiatives aimed at introducing SEA in Uzbekistan.
Particular attention was also paid to strengthening the professional capacity of national specialists. The parties agreed to organize joint training and practical seminars involving the Korea Environment Institute, the State Center for Environmental Expertise, and Green University. The seminars will focus on strategic environmental assessment, environmental impact assessment (EIA), and state environmental expertise.
The implementation of these initiatives will help strengthen the institutional and methodological capacity of Uzbekistan’s national environmental assessment system, enhance the professional qualifications of specialists, and ensure the systematic integration of international approaches into the country’s environmental regulatory framework.
