The Sea Breeze Uzbekistan project emphasizes environmental sustainability and public interests

The event was attended by Deputy Hokim of Tashkent Region Najmiddinkhoja Sharipov, Director of the State Ecological Expertise Center under the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change Gayrat Mukhamedov, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC “Uzsuvtaminot” Tokhir Khaydarov, Hokim of Bostanlyk District Jurabek Akhmedov, Head of the NGO “Ecomaktab,” Chairperson of the Public Council under the Committee for Ecology Natalia Shivaldova, and General Director of Sea Breeze Uzbekistan Sardor Khamidov.
Local and international experts also took part in the event, including: Firuza Sultan-zadeh, Consultant on Sustainable Development and Environmental Issues and Head of the Expert Advisory Group of the EcoSphere Center (Republic of Azerbaijan); Vesna Kolar-Planinsic, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy of the Republic of Slovenia, Alternate Co-Chair of the Bureau of the Espoo Convention and the Protocol on Strategic Environmental Assessment; Vadim Ni, Specialist in Environmental Law and Climate Issues (Republic of Kazakhstan); Sangyun Lee, Institute of Environment (Republic of Korea), Chief Researcher of the Environmental Impact Assessment Group; Yevgeny Rachevsky, Deputy Director of the State Environmental Expertise Center of the Republic of Belarus; and Vladimir Gamezo, Head of a Department of the State Environmental Expertise Center of the Republic of Belarus.
Speaking at the event, General Director of Sea Breeze Uzbekistan Sardor Khamidov emphasized that the project will be implemented in strict compliance with environmental standards. In particular, he noted that the project will be implemented in stages through 2035, without causing damage to nature, using modern engineering solutions adapted to the conditions of Uzbekistan, creating additional jobs, and taking into account other important aspects.
“After the full launch of the project, up to 8,000 jobs will be created. This means not only income for families, but also the development of local businesses, the service sector, and tourism. In addition, the territory will be landscaped. Already at the first stage, it is planned to plant more than 10,000 trees and plants,” he said. “I would like to emphasize in particular: Sea Breeze Uzbekistan is not just a resort, it is an infrastructure project implemented in accordance with environmental standards. Roads, engineering networks, sewage systems, utilities, and the improvement of the coastal area — all of this will serve the region for many years.”
During the hearings, local and international experts presented reports including an assessment of the project’s environmental impact, the construction of wastewater and drinking water systems in Bostanlyk District, and the improvement of sanitary and hygienic conditions for the population. It was noted that the discharge of waste into the Charvak reservoir will not be permitted; the sewage system will be modernized, including the treatment of wastewater and its transfer to a centralized system; special attention will be paid to the preservation of biodiversity; the resort will be open to everyone; and a comfortable recreational area will be created for the local population.
After that, questions, proposals, and opinions of local residents, representatives of the public, environmental activists, journalists, and bloggers were heard. Specialists provided detailed answers to all questions within the framework of the project. In turn, it was emphasized that the expressed proposals and comments will be taken into account, and that environmental sustainability and the interests of the population will remain top priorities during the project’s implementation.
