Fergana Region Hokim Khayrullo Bozorov, Chairman of “Hududiy Elektr Tarmoqlari” JSC Asrorjon Askarov, and representatives of foreign companies joined the ceremony via video link from the commissioned site.
Built on a 15-hectare site with US$144 million in investment, the project was engineered and constructed by China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. The first stage has been launched using 193 Sungrow battery units, providing 150 MW / 300 MWh of storage capacity. To connect the facility to the grid, a new substation was constructed and a 10-kilometer 220 kV transmission line was laid to the “Uzbekistan” substation.
This commissioning creates the ability to cover peak-time shortages across the Fergana Valley power system with up to 300 MWh of stored energy. Fully operational, the BESS can discharge 150 MW (300 MWh) twice daily for two hours during peak demand, while charging during off-peak daytime and nighttime hours—an approach particularly valuable in winter to maintain system balance.
The project strengthens supply reliability for consumers, enhances grid resiliency, and creates 25 new jobs. Implemented in partnership with Chinese companies, the BESS will further boost the region’s economic potential and improve the quality of power supply. On the same day, the regional hokim inspected the facility on site.
