Ensuring a Healthy Competitive Environment and Protection Against Monopolism in the Republic of Uzbekistan
In this regard, a training seminar was organized for the staff of the State Center for Environmental Expertise, where the basics of the legislation were explained in detail, particularly the essence and content of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Competition.” The law emphasizes the importance of competition for economic growth and is aimed at creating a sound competitive environment, protecting consumer interests, and eliminating monopolistic dominance in the market.
During the meeting, it was noted that heads and employees of government bodies and organizations should pay special attention to the following issues:
• criteria for identifying monopolies and natural monopolies;
• analysis of the market capabilities of enterprises in a dominant position and cases of abuse of such a position;
• actions restricting competition and price manipulation;
• mechanisms for ensuring fair competition in exchange trading.
One of the actively discussed topics was the need to address cases of unfair competition and to apply financial liability measures as provided by law. It was emphasized that each manager and employee must thoroughly study the requirements of the legislation, adhere to legality and transparency in their professional activities, and maintain open communication with the public.
Particular attention during the event was given to eliminating actions that restrict competition in exchange trading, as well as the artificial inflation of prices. Legislative norms and procedures for conducting exchange trades were reviewed in detail.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was emphasized that leaders and employees of government bodies and organizations are obliged to strictly observe the legal requirements to ensure a healthy competitive environment and prevent unfair competition. Heads of internal control services are also tasked with regularly conducting awareness-raising and preventive work among staff.
As part of the event, the essence and goals of the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PF-35 dated February 28, 2025, “On Measures for the Further Development of Competition in the Economy and Strengthening the Role of the Private Sector,” were also covered.
