In accordance with these agreements, the first training workshop for environmental experts from the State Environmental Expertise Center and its regional branches commenced today at the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies.
During the event, representatives of the World Bank Group discussed international EIA and SEA standards, issues related to their integration into national legislation, existing differences between national and international practices, and proposals for the further improvement of this field.
Against the backdrop of global warming and rapid industrial development, the need has arisen to strengthen the legal framework governing environmental assessment procedures in line with international requirements. In this regard, the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Environmental Expertise” was adopted in a new edition in 2025.
To ensure its effective implementation, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted Resolution No. 234 of May 11, 2026, “On Measures for the Introduction of New Environmental Impact Assessment Mechanisms”.
The training workshops, organized at the initiative of the World Bank, are of significant importance not only for the development of highly qualified environmental professionals but also for the further enhancement of environmental assessment legislation.
The workshops are scheduled to take place from June 9 to 11, 2026.
