Ahead of May 12 — Environmental Education Day — information was presented during the meeting on the development of cooperation between the state environmental expertise system and higher educational institutions, increasing young people’s interest in the field of ecology, and improving the practical training of future specialists. Participants were also introduced to the Center’s main areas of activity and objectives.
As emphasized during the meeting, environmental expertise serves as an important mechanism for assessing the potential impact of projects on the environment and public health, as well as for the timely identification of environmental risks.
It was noted that the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Environmental Expertise, Environmental Impact Assessment, and Strategic Environmental Assessment” has brought the sector to a new stage of development by providing for the assessment not only of individual projects, but also of strategic documents.
In this regard, special attention is being paid to the training of environmental specialists equipped with modern knowledge and practical skills, as well as to the development of dual education, which ensures the integration of the educational process with the activities of government bodies, enterprises, and expert organizations.
Participants were also informed about the Center’s cooperation with international organizations and the growing demand for specialists with foreign language proficiency, modern technological competencies, data analysis skills, and expertise in environmental modeling.
During the meeting, the nationwide projects “Yashil Makon,” “EcoCulture,” and “Clean Air,” currently being implemented across the country, were discussed. It was noted that these initiatives are aimed at expanding green areas, improving air quality, developing environmental education, and raising environmental awareness among the population.
In particular, within the framework of the “Yashil Makon” project, it is planned to plant 200 million tree and shrub saplings annually and increase the country’s greening level to 30 percent by 2030. Students were encouraged to actively participate in environmental campaigns, scientific research, and practical projects.
As part of the event, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the State Center for Environmental Expertise and the Faculty of Biology and Ecology.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to consistently continue cooperation in the areas of specialist training, development of dual education, involvement of students in environmental projects, and implementation of joint initiatives.
