Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan

This law introduces amendments and additions to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the Protection of the Population and Territories from Natural and Technogenic Emergencies", expanding the responsibilities of national and local executive authorities in preventing and responding to emergencies, including natural disasters linked to climate change. It also provides for the assessment of damage caused by emergencies.

In particular, Article 50² of the Law defines the main tasks of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan regarding emergency response.

According to this article, the Committee’s main tasks include:

• Establishing control over industrial, radiation, and nuclear safety at hazardous production facilities located within or near emergency zones;

• Ensuring compliance with industrial safety requirements in the elimination of emergencies involving flammable and explosive chemical substances at hazardous production facilities.
