On October 20 of this year, a national seminar on the topic “Organization and planning of review and assessment of applications by the regulatory authority for licensing of nuclear power plants” began in Tashkent. The event is held within the framework of the second phase of the national technical cooperation project UZB9008 — “Strengthening the legal and infrastructure framework for effective regulation and control of radiation facilities and sources,” jointly organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety Committee.

LICENSING AND ASSESSMENT OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS

The event is attended by specialists from the Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the “Uzatom” Agency, the “NPP Construction Directorate” State Unitary Enterprise, the Scientific and Technical Center for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, as well as experts from the IAEA, Turkey, and Pakistan. Throughout the seminar, leading IAEA experts are delivering presentations, and participants are deepening their knowledge through discussions and Q&A sessions on the procedures and planning involved in reviewing and assessing licensing applications for nuclear power plants, based on the experiences of the IAEA and other countries.

The seminar will continue until October 23, providing participants with the opportunity to explore the latest developments in the field, gain insights into IAEA licensing requirements, effective evaluation systems, and share advanced practices and opportunities from other countries in this area.
