The Zhambyl district of Almaty region has been selected as the second site for the construction of a nuclear power plant.

This was announced today, October 1, by the head of Kazakhstan’s Atomic Energy Agency, Almasadam Satkaliyev, during a session of the lower house of parliament. According to him, the second plant will also be located in the southern part of the country, as southern Kazakhstan is currently facing an energy shortage.
“At present, electricity is being transmitted via the ‘North–South’ transit line. This ensures stability and reliability of the power supply,” the agency head stated.
The village of Ulken, located in the Zhambyl district of Almaty region, lies approximately 550 km from Tashkent.
