SCO DECLARATION ON NUCLEAR SAFETY

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, proposed the adoption of a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Declaration on strengthening multilateral partnership in the field of nuclear safety. He made this statement today, September 1, at the SCO summit held in Tianjin, China.
He recalled that cooperation in the sphere of security is one of the key priorities of the SCO, emphasizing that today there is a growing need for coordinated approaches as well as new mechanisms to ensure trust and security.
“We believe the time has come to adopt an SCO Declaration on strengthening multilateral partnership in nuclear safety. This declaration will become a solid foundation for the development of peaceful uses of atomic energy and for responding to emergencies, while also making a worthy contribution to the global non-proliferation regime under the auspices of the United Nations,” Mirziyoyev said.
