CONSTRUCTION OF KAZAKHSTAN’S FIRST NUCLEAR POWER PLANT LAUNCHED

Chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliyev and Director General of “Rosatom” Alexey Likhachev have launched the construction of the country’s first nuclear power plant, reports “Tengrinews.”
According to A. Satkaliyev, construction of the NPP will begin in the Almaty region. “The NPP is a strategic project that will become a driving force for the development of the nuclear industry, industrial and innovative progress, and long-term economic growth,” he said. The total cost of the project is estimated at around 14–15 billion USD. In addition, 1 billion USD will be allocated for the construction of social facilities and infrastructure. Completion of the NPP is scheduled for 2035–2036.
