The meeting is attended by a delegation headed by Sardor Yakubekov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety, as well as representatives of the IAEA. During the opening, Ms. Eve-Kulli Kala, Director of the Division for Technical Cooperation for Europe, and Bakhtiyor Ibragimov, Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative in Vienna, delivered speeches emphasizing the significance of the meeting and the prospects for joint cooperation. During the event, the Uzbek side presented the national strategy for developing the nuclear energy sector, ongoing institutional reforms, and the National Action Plan to strengthen human resource capacity. According to Aziz Ashirmetov, Chief Specialist at the Committee, the presentation included detailed information on the legal framework, public awareness initiatives, and environmental safety measures. “IAEA experts proposed to deepen practical cooperation with Uzbekistan through technical assistance, expert consultations, analytical reviews, and expanded educational programs. The results of activities carried out in 2022–2023 were summarized, and priority tasks for the coming years were set. Agreements were also reached to share experience in areas such as personnel training, environmental protection, and nuclear emergency preparedness. Such cooperation enables both parties to achieve tangible outcomes,” Ashirmetov stated.
